Welcome letter from GHCS Leadership Management Team

Dear parents, teachers, and students,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at Guang Hua Chinese School. Whether you are a returning family or new to the GHCS, we warmly welcome you!

As we finalize preparations for this school year, growth continues to be part of the GHCS story. As of today, we have over 110 classes, 800 students have registered and enrollment exceeds 1,300. School will start on Sunday, September 10. Our school management team members will be very excited to see you in the hallway of Parkhouse Hall.

To help our students and parents start school smoothly, we would like to share the following information:

  1. Rules of Students and Parents: Please read the Students Rules as attached to your child and discuss the information.
  2. Registration: You can switch classes and drop classes freely in the first two weeks. Please read our Fee and Refund Policy online carefully. For those who haven’t registered yet, please go to our website to register ASAP. There are a few classes under 6 students. The cancelation of the classes will be announced in the newsletter.
  3. Textbooks: For new kindergarten students, the school will distribute textbooks on the first day of school. Teachers of the KG classes should ask a parent to collect the textbook fee and pick up the textbooks at the school office (room 345).  For the new students of Guanghua and who don’t have textbooks yet, please contact Weiqin Luan This email address is being protected from spambots.   4. Tuition payment: Please pay your tuition on time. You use paypal online to pay it now. Also, you could write a check and make it payable to GHCS and deliver at the school when school is open. Please make sure to put your family ID number on your check before you deliver your payment.
  5. Classes updates:
  • Zumba @Tuesday night at Cultural Center by Lynne Gissi 6:00-7:00pm
  • Children Choir @Sunday 4:00-5:00pm by Yuan Liu, Vocal music teacher for kids Standard bel canto practice in every class; Practice Chinese songs and English songs Chorus for the whole group from 2012; Teaching at the GHCS Summer Program and kids love her.
  • Classes from Accel:  

a)      Enrichment English and Math on Sundays.

b)      Regular SAT Program, including SAT Prep Regular Class, SAT Testing Class, SAT II Subjects Class, etc on Saturdays at GPCCC from 8:30am – 4:30pm

c)      SAT Testing Classes at GPCCC tests every month on Saturdays from 9am to 3:00pm.

6.      No School Day and After School program at Cultural Center 

 1)  No School Day Open Date (8:30am – 6:30pm)

September 21; November 7; Winter Break: December 27, 28, 29 ; January 12; January 15; February 16; February 19; Spring Break: March 26, 27, 28, 29, 30; May 15

(The following early dismissal day opens from 1:00pm – 6:00pm)

November 20, 21, 22; March 21, 22, 23; June 8; June 11

 2)     After School Open Daily (3:30pm – 6:30pm)

Aug 28, 2017 – June 8, 2018 (except Holidays and No School Days)

 3)   Fee: Registration Fee per School Year: $15/each student

Tuition:

a)      $60/ each full day service

b)      Winter Break: $150/3 days

c)      Spring Break: $235/5 days

d)      Early Dismissal Day: $40/per day

e)      After School Program $80/week or $295/month

f)        GPCCC members: Registration fee is waived and 10% discount monthly

g)      Sibling: 10% Discount monthly

h)     Promotion Discount: if you register on or before Sept 10, you will get 10% discount for the first three months’ tuition

  4)  Classes and Activities

a)  No School Day, Spring Break, Winter Break

    5)  Transportation:

New!!! In order to convince for students to join our after school program, our cultural center provide transportation with a little additional charge for the following elementary school students:Blue Bell Elementary School/Shady Grove Elementary School/Oak Lane Day School

7.      The 6th Writing Competition by Qiao Bao Deadline is October 15. 参加《侨报》第六届美国少年儿童中文大赛, 截稿日期十月十五日。

 

  • 大赛组别:儿童组(8至10岁)/少儿组(11至13岁)/少年组(14至16岁)(须来美五年以上或在美国出生8至16岁少年儿童)
  • 参赛主题:爱在我身边”或“说说你学习中文有趣的故事
  • 大赛奖品:初赛优胜者将获颁证书和奖品。/ 决赛每个年龄组分设一、二、三等奖。/每组一等奖500元奖品(1名),二等奖300元奖品(1名),三等奖200元奖品(1名),优胜奖(若干),均颁发奖状。

8.      Chinese History and Cultural Competition on Oct 8. 2017年中国海外交流协会第六届海外华裔青少年中华文化大赛

像往年一样,光华中文学校七年级以上的学生将要参加“海外华裔青少年中华文化大赛”。美国初赛时间为10月8日。考试复习资料可以在http://www.hwjyw.com/content/2012/03/26/24155.shtml 下载。文化中心将复印一批,FCFS。希望家长们督促孩子们利用假期时间提前复习。
