MathCounts Qiang, Steven 强熙淳

MathCounts Advanced is for students in 6th to 8th grade who have some experience with competition math and want to enhance their problem-solving skills. The course will focus on the advanced concepts in counting, probability and geometry to prepare students for MathCounts chapter and state level contests and American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) competition. No textbook is needed. Students will be assigned weekly homework and will have countdown, target and team round practice in class.

 Steven Qiang is a rising senior at Wissahickon High School. He has taught Mathcounts at Guanghua for 3 years. Steven won first place in MathCounts Valley Forge chapter contest in middle school. He scored 800 in SAT Math and SAT Math Level II and 5 for AP Calculus AB and BC. He is the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) qualifier from American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) 12 and he is a member of the Lehigh Valley American Regions Mathematics League (ARML).
Math Counts (Beginners) Qiang, Even    Evan Qiang is a rising sophmore at Wissahickon High School. Evan placed 2nd in the MathCounts Valley Forge chapter and Pennsylvania State competition. In 7th and 8th grade, Evan represented Pennsylvania in the National MathCounts competition. Evan earned distinguished honor roll in AMC 8 and AMC 10 contests and he qualified for AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Exam) since 7th grade. In 2016, Evan also earned 1st place in the regional and PA state You Be the Chemist Challenge and represented Pennsylvania in the Nationals. Evan enjoys working with young students and he is excited about teaching MathCounts Beginner class. Mathcounts is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition, which is divided into four stages: school, chapter, state, and national. MathCounts Beginner is an introductory to medium level class, designed for students in 4th to 6th grade. The course will introduce students to a wide range of concepts covered in MathCounts contest, including mathematical problem solving with arithmetic, algebra, logical reasoning and number theory. No textbook is needed. Each class consists of homework review, concept discussion, number sense practice and team activity. The course will prepare students for various popular elementary and middle school math competitions including MathCounts and Math League. Students will also engage through a variety of activities to strengthen their interest and understanding in mathematics and enhance their problem-solving skills.
SAT Math  Hu, Eric   Eric Hu is a junior at Upper Dublin High School who has a passion for math.  He has scored 800 in SAT Math and SAT Math Level II and 5 for AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC.  Eric is a self-driven learner who taught himself AP Statistics with a score of 5 and enjoys solving challenging problems via participating in numerous math competitions.  Among Eric’s notable accomplishments are USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) qualifier from American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) 12, squad leader of Lehigh Valley American Regions Mathematics League (ARML), gold medalist of USA Mathematical Talent Search (USAMTS) and participant of Princeton University Mathematics Competition (PUMaC).  At his leisure time, Eric loves ants, Rubik’s cube and Icelandic.  
Writing Workshop Rabain, Vincent   It is intended for those who have excelled in the Creative Writing course or for students who have already have mastered basic writing skills. Students who wish to register for this class must submit a sample of their writing for evaluation. Vincent has retired after a long career as a research analyst in the pharmaceutical industry and twenty years at Penn State University. He is a skilled teacher, writer and presenter who enjoys mentoring young people. He has been active at Guang Hua since 2010.
